The power of micro habits: behaviour change in 2022

The New Year is soon upon us. A time to reflect on the past year and look ahead. Maybe make a list of things to learn or experience. Maybe look at habits we want to change or that we want people around us to change.

(The second one is easy peasy right?)

Behind today’s learning door we have Mike Florette and Lisbet Duvringe, Swedish Behavioral experts, Authors, Speakers and Founders of hrpeople.nu - a company specializing in change management, behaviour change and behaviour design with the methodology Mikrovanor® as a foundation.

Mikrovanor® (Micro habits in English) is a revolutionary way to develop sustainable habits, based on the latest behavioral research.

What exactly is a micro habit you may wonder?

A micro habit is basically just a really small step on how you can start doing pretty much anything you want to do. For example, if you want to become a runner, start by taking a short daily jog before or after work instead of attempting a full mile straight away.

Watch the video with Mike and Lisbet below and hear what they have to say about micro learning.

This video is in Swedish and lacks subtitles at the moment but do not worry, we have summarized the content for you below.

What we learned from Mike and Lisbet

- Forget the idea that you can create any habit if you do something for 21 days - if you want lasting behaviour change. Instead lean on behavioral science and behavioral design.

- Micro Habits have proven to be the most effective way to create new habits. Making small tweaks, taking small steps toward the behaviors and results we want to have.

- Many of us: Individuals and organizations want big changes at once, but big change at once is rarely sustainable.

- It doesn’t take more than 30 seconds to start a micro habit, it’s easy, effective and best of all - it is fun!
